Entries tagged with Story Behind the Art provide details concerning the creation of a specific work; other stories such as Musings and Travel reflect my experiences overall, or relate to a particular photo trip or destination.

Musings, Beginnings, and all That
Every story has a beginning, and since this is my first post, you might assume that this is where all things related to my photography start. But that’s not really the case.
A Visit to the Ancients
The bristlecone forest is one of those solemn, magical places left on Earth. These incredible trees—some determined to be 5,000 years old—defy logic.
The Importance of Patience
There’s a phrase you’ll hear locals say around here: “If you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes.” There’s a lot of truth in that.
Seeing Afresh
Sand dunes are my latest photographic obsession. Their vast spaces, their innumerable shapes and patterns make them a minimalist’s visual dream.
Keeping the Creative Eye Open
A common theme you’ll see in my musings is the importance of mindfulness, of trying to be in the moment during photo outings. That sounds way too New Agey, but it isn’t.
The Glory of Puget Sound Sunsets
I never tire of sunsets. I admit I’m spoiled with them, based on my location on a cliff overlooking the waters of Puget Sound in Washington State, USA.
Visualizing a Turning Point
This is the final photograph I took on my first long-distance photo trip—the voyage that fundamentally changed the direction of my life.
